Blackwood

Luxury & all the comforts in this stunning Pokolbin guesthouse

Photography by Bourne Blue Architecture

The entrance to the property sets the scene with its perfectly manicured lawns which draw you into the cabin like building whose dramatic charcoal exterior pops from the bush setting.

Step inside and discover an incredibly spacious and beautifully designed one bedroom Hunter Valley retreat. With its mix of light and dark tones, luxurious textures and modern facilities the space instantly allows you to switch off whilst still not totally removing all of life’s most loved conveniences.

We love the large sliding windows with adjoining daybeds that allow you to sit and take full advantage of the properties dam and purpose built jetty. There is of course the open fireplace and that black tiled outdoor plunge pool which sits at a very swimmable 33+ degrees. With wine in hand it’s heaven on a cool winters evening.

Working together with the Newcastle based Bourne Blue Architecture owners Anne Marie & Ewen Cameron have collaborated beautifully to create what is a luxe escape. Taking a wander around the property Anne Marie explains,

“From the outset it was really important to us that we work with as many local suppliers as possible.” “Kay, at Kays Upholstery in Weston, made all of the daybeds and did an incredible job and we worked with Amy Lynch, who is Stockton based, to make all of our beautiful curtains and blinds. All of the cushions were sourced from Fetch in Cessnock and the Pendant lighting, mats and candles are from Pappa Sven in Cooks Hill.” “Every opportunity we could work with local people we did.”

Contemporary luxe is undoubtedly the tone throughout with every inch of the property exuding a perfect combination of comfort and sophistication.

Best yet blackwood. is located right in the heart of Wine Country and only walking distance from the Hunter Valley’s much-loved Pepper Tree Wines cellar door and Circa 1876 restaurant. Perfect, obviously, for a romantic getaway blackwood., which is also shared by Anne Marie and Ewyn’s two other properties, The Woods, makes for the ideal small, or micro, wedding location.

Anne Marie, “we’ve definitely noticed a trend in couples wanting to tone down their weddings, preferring a much smaller gathering, and is also quite popular with the elopement style weddings.”

Regardless of the occasion blackwood. is a exquisite escape for those looking to spoil themselves just a little.
