The main intersection in trendy Long Jetty has long been dominated by cafes, hairdressers, vintage stores, and a record store. Dubbed the “Newtown of the Central Coast” this high street has become a bustle of activity over the years from its prior run-down history. That intersection now has a bright, chic, and blooming addition in Poppy Lane florist.

Owned by Kellie who has owned Sadie Lou boutique across the road for 10 years, Poppy Lane is here to add one thing that was missing from this urban hub - fresh flowers.

“There is a lack of florists in the area and it’s a service people want,” says Kellie “It’s so convenient to be able to pop over and grab some flowers when you’re already out brunching at a cafe or browsing the retail shops.”

The location is pivotal, taking over the record store on the corner of Thompson Street. “I’ve always pondered floristry, even as a little girl and my niece was training to be a florist so when the for lease sign went up I just decided to jump on it,” Kellie says.

Seeing the potential for a florist in the area, Kellie now learns on the job while her niece works full-time in Poppy Lane. After a complete refit, paint, and transformation the store opened during the mid-year school holidays and was incredibly welcomed.

“The response has been overwhelming but beautiful. It’s so reassuring to be so well received when we did this on a whim!”

Kellie has quickly made close connections with customers as they naturally tell their stories when searching for a bunch of flowers. From birthdays and condolences to graduations and everything in between Kellie says it is the moments she gets to share that make it all worth it.

“It’s a nice thing to know that what you’re doing is making people happy, even in sad moments.”

With a simple white and light wood decor, Poppy Lane allows the blooms to do the talking alongside small gifts, homewares, and local items to compliment their bouquets. Kellie hopes the store will help bring back the pre-lockdown vibe to Long Jetty and get it back on its feet.

“Prior to COVID Long Jetty was really energetic and it feels like that has dwindled since then, so Poppy Lane is about creating a hub, bringing some class to the area, and promoting local shopping again.”

For now, it's in-store and phone orders only but online ordering and delivery are coming, ahead of plans for events, corporates, and wedding services in 2023. Bloomin’ brilliant!
