Toowoon Bay SLSC reinvigorated with relaxed cafe vibes by Village Kiosk
The third offering from co-owners Trish and Derek comes after the famous Village Emporium in Wamberal and Little Emporium in Tumbi Umbi.
Upon hearing the old takeaway shop was up for tender and seeing the potential in the killer location, Trish and Derek moved fast and added beachside chill to their already impressive repertoire.
Whilst the Emporium in Wamberal is focused on takeaway, gluten-free items, deli products, and retail, Village Kiosk is the place to kick off your shoes over a long lazy brunch, or grab a takeaway and sit on the beach.
As we chat a man shuffles his chair to recline in the sun, dogs sniff and scuffle, retirees meet for group breakfast, young mums and dads push trikes and strollers, and locals pull up a milk crate when all the tables fill up.
“It's the relaxed moments like this that I love. People are not in a rush, they are enjoying themselves, and where else can you do that ON the beach with a view like this,” says Trish.
And word is getting around, with locals returning to the space and tables constantly full, Village Kiosk is already expanding its seating and looking to extend hours come summertime to offer Friday and Saturday evening dining. Picnic blankets and an online ordering app are also coming so you can order from the beach and receive a text message when ready.
“It was time for the space here to move with the changing cafe culture on the coast. People want cafe-style food, excellent coffee, and ambiance.”
Though there is one item on the old takeaway shop menu the locals begged to remain unchanged - the famous chip - so for those who remember them, don’t worry they haven’t changed!
As a Central Coast local and business owner for 12 years, Trish has seen the transformation of food and coffee in the area and knows the value of the local community.
“We love and welcome our tourist visitors but we want to be known as a relaxed community space. Beachside venues are difficult as we are reliant on the weather so what gets us through all the seasons is the local community and making sure they have an excellent time here, so that’s our focus.”
On the menu, you will find classics like the B&E Roll alongside fresh options such as Breakfast Bruschetta, Smoked Salmon Bagel, and the rotating weekly special of a fresh juice and toastie.
Village Kiosk serves up Grand Cru coffee and assorted pastries from Ludos, Avoca. Not forgetting the famous Toowoon Bay Chip! So, what are you waiting for? Make a trip down for a seaside sojourn and become part of the Village!
