Looking to do something active in Port Stephens?

Most visits to Nelson Bay typically revolve around a bit of sun and surf, and a fair amount of wining and dining, with an exhaustive list of cafes and restaurants for visitors to choose from. For those who indulge a little too much, there are ways for you to work off your excessiveness and soak up the area’s natural beauty at the same time.

Located at the end of Shoal Bay Road, near the Zenith Beach car park, you will find the gateway to Tomaree Head Summit walk. A spectacular walking trail ideal for those wanting to sweat it out just a little and experience Port Stephens from above.

The summit sits 161 metres above Port Stephens with the invigorating short walk sure to get the heart pumping. But don’t be deterred by this, the trail offers a number of stopping bays for you to take a breather and soak up the spectacular views.

Once you’ve reached the top, and caught your breath, unparalleled views of the Port Stephens coastline and panoramic north coast await you. If you’re looking for a reason to linger a little longer, pack a hamper and make use of the picnic table and seating at the summit.

The Tomaree Head Summit walk won’t take much time out of your day, so there’s still plenty of time to get back to those other activities, but Hunter Hunter recommends this trail as being a must do that every visitor, and local, should add to their list.
