The Home Interior

A coastal living experience in Nelson Bay

The Home Interior and In House Café, which is located in Nelson Bay, was opened 4 years ago and is run by husband and wife duo Josie and Paul.

With Josie’s background in retail and Paul’s background in finance the couple have now been in business together for 9 years, with their other business Home Body just around the corner.

The three level building was initially set up to sell homewares with a café attached to sell coffee and cake. However, their son at the time was finishing his apprenticeship as a chef at the Anchorage and insisted on working for his parents with the opportunity to “start something from the ground up”.

As the business grew they eventually installed a commercial kitchen after about 18 months. Although their son has recently moved, he has created a fair amount of the current menu.

Offering all day breakfast and lunch, most things are made in house from their tomato jam on the crispy bacon and smashed egg roll to their hummus which comes with the green herb falafels.

But don’t worry you can still opt for just a morning tea cake and coffee. The In House Café use All Press coffee “who make sure we are well-trained baristas” explains Josie.

Having the homewares and café together, Josie adds, “It’s great, sometimes the husbands might have that extra coffee … or beer, while the women take a look through the shop upstairs”.

Josie sources a lot of the homeware products overseas, as well as Melbourne and Sydney, and is also kept busy with home styling and staging.

The Home Interior is opened every day and after trialling dinner last year they are looking at opening nights again over the summer.
