The ancient art of Yoga is believed to have originated in India around 5,000 or more, years ago. So it's fair to say that it's not a new concept, even in Newcastle the spiritual practice has been transforming minds and bodies for some time now with studios popping up all over town. Whilst we may be a few 1,000 years behind the Buddha masters, what Newcastle is ahead of time in, is embracing the new concept of Pay-What-You-Can (PWYC), and Yoga For All in inner city Newcastle is leading the way.

Tahnee McCrossin and Lyra Burghaus are the ladies who brought this interesting concept to Newcastle in November, 2013 with PWYC literally meaning that you pay how much you feel the service you received deserves. Tahnee says that the purpose of the studio was meant for all to experience, as the name suggests, it recognises that not everyone can afford or want to commit to a long term gym membership. Modelled off the donation studios of California and Sydney, there are no memberships or class passes, you literally turn up when you want.

The class list is a nice mix of fun and hard work with all being adaptable to both beginners and the more experienced.

The Vinyasa Flow class is designed to get you all sweaty, Japanese Flow builds strength, while the more traditional Hatha yoga will get you all stretchy. Pregnant ladies aren't forgotten with a class solely dedicated to you, likewise for the stressed, injured or the slightly older folk with Rest & Restore bringing you back to life.

Yoga for All Newcastle | HUNTERhunterAside from the unique paying concept and creative class list, what's most to like about Yoga For All is friendly feel, as Tahnee explains, "It's a big play pen for adults".

Designed by Tahnee, and with some help from her friends, both studios have a light and airy ambiance that instantly provides visitors with a relaxed and calming feel as soon as you enter. But you do need to be warned, the classes fill up quick so you'll need to get in early to secure your mat spot.
