A powerful true story of kindness hits the stage

In a time marked by division and uncertainty, Come From Away offers something rare: a reminder of the extraordinary kindness people are capable of.

This August, Metropolitan Players Inc brings the internationally acclaimed musical to Civic Theatre Newcastle, inviting audiences to witness the true story of a small town that made a big difference.

On September 11, 2001, 38 planes carrying thousands of passengers were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland. Almost overnight, the town’s population doubled. What could have been chaos became something else entirely - a powerful demonstration of generosity, compassion, and human connection.

Through a dynamic score blending folk, rock, and musical theatre, Come From Away captures the voices of both the “come from aways” (the stranded passengers) and the locals who welcomed them.

Audiences can expect laughter, tears, and a renewed sense of hope as the story unfolds through a talented local cast, including standout performances from Ann Hartsuyker-Accardi, Megan Williams, James Chapman, and Rob Vidler.
