Get jamming at the Underground with Jazz Jams every Thursday
Live music has taken a hammering in recent years, but with restrictions lifted live tunes are ramping up again, and The Grand Hotel are doing what they can to get behind it with the launch of Underground Jazz Jam.
Brought to you by NIMA (Newcastle Improvised Music Association) and Newcastle Hunter Jazz Club, Jazz Jam kicks off on Thursday September 15th with a weekly rotation of House Bands, and complements their already pumping Tuesday Night Jazz sessions, and have been doing so for 11 years thanks to an awesome team of volunteers. Heads up if you're keen to get along on Tuesday nights best to book ahead to secure a seat.
So what is the Underground Jazz Jam's all about? Capree Gaul from the Newcastle Hunter Jazz Club explained,
"The focus on Thursday is on the Jam, people bringing an instrument and getting involved. Thursday nights will have a more casual vibe in the room so people will feel comfortable getting up and having a jam with the house bands."
Not into Jazz? All good, Jazz Jam isn't just about Jazz, with Capri saying,
"Jazz is such a broad term, it can be any style, rock, funk, blues the house bands are across all the different styles and depending on the band leader it will be different each week."
"We're so lucky, we have some of the best live musicians in town heading up the House Bands, the band leader will lead the jam so you can expect a really interactive night of music, and they'll attract a whole range of different people to come and play."
Keen to do some Jamming, here's how it works?
All you need to do is bring along your instrument, singers are welcome also, and put your name down at the door on the sign on sheet which will ask you for your contact details, what instrument and songs you'd like to play.
