THE HANGAR

An incredibly strange, wild & wonderful intergalactic cabaret show in its own purpose built pop-up shipping container, otherwise known as the "THE HANGAR" landed in Civic Park from Friday 12 - Sunday 21 February.

Featuring the wonderful Garden Bar, food by Bao brothers and a whole lot more, the show itself features:

* Epic staged song & dance.
* Strange & exotic ultradimensional burlesque performances & dance.
* Bizarre & confusing intergalactic ritual.
* The powerful vocal majesty of Z Watt - King of Singing
* The epic sci-fi grandeur of Flight Hawk
* A veritable visual feast of elaborate props, vivid costumery, large scale puppets, projections & more.

Bound together by the bizarre interactive comedic stylings of MC Milky D this is like Spiegeltent meets Eurovision in outer space.

Happening in conjunction with the New Annual, THE HANGAR is bringing a wonderfully unique and bizarre evening of delights to the heart of Newcastle!

The Hangar Sideshow area & site activations within the Hangar is not just a stage & venue, behind the spinning neon 3D projections & giant neon lettering of the front gate it's truly more like a mini festival (a great way to enjoy some sweet festival vibes in a safe environment in these event restricted times!).

The site contains all the classic festival vibes; a cool bar & delicious food, gelato, coffee & hot bevs by Retro Kombi & The Gnarly Bus - with shipping container rooftop seating where you can enjoy views of the park & sideshow while you eat & drink.

The sideshow brings a taste of the wild & wacky side of the classic festival experience. Curated by Cindy Doolan of The Other Empire (the brains behind This That Festival's "The Other" area & Lost Paradise Festival's "Love Letter Post Office" & "Mini Bike Mafia" to name just a few of her recent activations) The Hangar Sideshow features a number of walk thru, pop up interactive fun activations & activities, some you can just sit & watch others that welcome you to get up & involved. 

Concepts like:
The Booty Parlour
The House of Olor - Olor is a pink elephant, with a joystick you control his vacuum trunk to pick up a coloured ball - what message will you find inside?
Giant Neon Crescent Moon Photobooth
The All Seeing Eye - soothsaying, fortune telling, oracle - may know something, may know nothing. Sit down in a rotating 70s egg chair & see what the Eye knows about you!
Dancing With The Stars - interactive puppet show & film op with The Squeaking Tribe.
Interplanetary Tuning Fork Alignments

There will also be fantastical interactive roving performances throughout the site & many more fascinating attractions ..

New Annual is City of Newcastle’s inaugural arts festival. Spanning ten days and activating venues across the city, the festival will feature local and visiting artists sharing music, dance, contemporary performance and visual art in a celebration of creativity.
