Autumn is your chance to immerse yourself in the arts

The city of Newcastle will come alive this March with a collection of incredible art and performance projects that will be popping up across our city.

Kicking off the month is Curious Legends in partnership with local Worimi people who will be exploring the Indigenous roots of Carrington Foreshore beneath illuminated puppets.

Explore and meet local artists in their open studios as part of the Studio Arts Trail. Don't miss Voices of Joan, a feminist punk ritual that summons the spirit of iconic iconoclast Joan of Arc.

Gimbay Gatigaan by Curious Legends

A truly unique experience with Aboriginal dancers, a giant Stingray, and an illuminated Pelican all coming together under the stars in Carrington! In collaboration with the Newcastle Worimi community, Curious Legends will present Gimbay Gatigaan (friendly Mudcrab in language), an outdoor, site-specific production exploring Aboriginal life and stories from Onebygamba (known locally as Carrington). Bring the whole family for an evening of family entertainment showcasing local indigenous culture and stories.

Studio Arts Trail

Join the Studio Arts Trail and celebrate Newcastle's thriving art scene. As you wander the inner city suburbs of Hamilton, Hamilton North and Islington you will discover some of the city's most interesting collaborative spaces and art projects.
When: Saturday 5 March
Stop 1: Hudson Street Hum, 7 Hudson Street Hamilton | 10am-12:30pm
Stop 2: Newcastle Art Space, 91 Chinchen Street Islington | 1pm-5pm
Stop 3: Clyde Street Studio, Studio 1, 50 Clyde Street Hamilton North | From 3pm
Stop 4: Creator Incubator, 15A/50 Clyde Street Hamilton North | 5pm till late

Voices of Joan by Whale Chorus Incorporated

In the intimate solo performance Voices of Joan, theatre maker Janie Gibson unravels the tangled threads of misogyny and Catholicism as she searches for Joan’s story in fragments of words; words spoken at her trial, translated in textbooks, imagined in poetry, and illuminated in drama.
Don't miss this showstopping act with performances.
