What's On

Presented by Newcastle Tourism Industry Group

A new initiative for the Newcastle region, Newcastle Tourism Industry Group is working towards putting the spotlight on the outstanding work of hospitality and tourism businesses and their staff to give recognition to those who ensure that visitors experience the best Newcastle has to offer.

The scope of the Awards has been deliberately set to encompass the gamut of the visitor economy, from hotels and restaurants to tour operators and event organisers.

“In launching these Awards, we want to emphasise and nurture a culture of excellence in our local hospitality and tourism industry,” says NTIG chairman Michael Stamboulidis.

“But we also want to showcase the rewards and the fun that come with a career in hospitality and tourism. It’s an industry that values creativity and quick thinking, often based in spectacular locations and with great camaraderie amongst staff members.

We do work hard, but we also relish the buzz of energy that comes from interacting directly with guests, from seeing happy smiles after a tasty meal, a restful night’s sleep or a great adventure. And if you like to move around and see the world, there’s nothing better than a career in hospitality or tourism.”

The inaugural Hospitality & Tourism Awards will honour outstanding contributions in three categories, Employee of the Year, Employer of the Year, and Industry Support Partner of the Year, with a total of $10,000 in prizes for the nominees.

The Awards are open to Newcastle hospitality and tourism businesses and their staff, as well as to all members of NTIG.

In keeping with the celebratory theme of the Awards, finalists and winners will be announced at a gala event on Monday, 22 May, at Earp’s Distillery in Carrington which everyone is invited to.
