The Newcastle CBD is coming Alive this Autumn | 29 Apr - 21 May

A month-long celebration is coming to the Newcastle CBD with Autumn Alive bringing together a collective of night-time events happening all throughout the city for all to enjoy.

The City of Newcastle has put together an exciting program from 29 April to 21 May with thanks to funding from the NSW Government, to rediscover our incredible cultural facilities and support our local businesses after the pandemic hiatus.

From alfresco dining, live performances, and curated walking trails to Disney movies in Museum Park, Autumn Alive will be the only excuse you need to fall back in love with our city.

Autumn Alive Launch Party

Date: Friday 29 April
Time: 5-9pm 

Swing down to Pacific Park for our huge opening night for Autumn Alive! Have a play with the brand-new Night Spaces interactive lightbox installations featuring a collection of works from Newcastle Art Gallery. Then dance the night away to at a silent disco and enjoy light displays and entertainment from Curious Legends and Catapult Dance.

Newcastle has a world-renown live performance scene; this is your chance to experience it over four weeks as we invite you to join us for diverse and mesmerising programming. Bring a picnic rug, grab a takeaway diner from our local business partners and enjoy some amazing music, spoken word, dance and interactive lighting in Pacific Park. Produced by four of Newcastle’s best emerging programmers Queer and Now, Skux Az, LOVEDAVID, and Palace, these incredible acts will be happening each Saturday and Sunday during May and are not be missed.

Library After Dark

Dates: Thursdays and Fridays

Newcastle Libraries and Newcastle Art Gallery presents Library After Dark: an eclectic series of evening pop up events that will keep you entertained and enthralled! There will be Crime Canapes & Cocktails with Barry Maitland in conversation with Jamie Lewis; "The Library is Open" Drag Bar featuring Timberlina & Foxxe Faux; a Bad Art Party featuring local artists Jen Denzin & Joanne Back; and the Majishans.

Closing Night: Autumn Alive Closing Party

Date: Saturday 21 May
Time: 5-9pm
Where: Newcastle Library

Autumn Alive is going out with a bang with their Closing Party. Rain, hail or shine, the closing party is ON this Saturday from 5pm!

The festivities have been moved inside the Newcastle City Library to ensure the weather does not affect the music acts. Registrations are essential - register here.

Headlining the free closing party will be L-Fresh the Lion, supported by Newcastle-based rapper MEER, live DJ's and an interactive live art experience with Newcastle Art Gallery in collaboration with emerging artist Holly Macdonald and local transdisciplinary studio Art Thinking Australia. Inspired by 19th century Photogenic Drawings, Shadowgram brings this unique image making process to the digital age. Audiences will generate their own shadowgram portraits and display them on a large-scale work of art created by local artist Holly Macdonald.
