With all this talk of heading out to the central west, it’s about time we covered the important topic of food and drink in the region. Located only 20-40 minutes from Orange, it’s no surprise to hear that Carcoar and Millthorpe are both big on their food and wine. The Village Grocer

This small espresso bar offers up quality coffee thanks to Bathurst based FishRiver Roasters, as well as locally sourced products, house-made slices, cakes and pastries.

The Old Mill Café

Open for breakfast and lunch, The Old Mill Café is our top pick in town for a good hearty breakfast. The building was originally the town bakery and it has slowly grown into a boutique café complete with its original old charm.

Millthorpe Providore

The local grab’n go coffee joint in town, Millthorpe Providore is not only home to great café food and coffee, but stocks a huge collection of local gourmet produce. From locally grown fruit and veg to fresh bread, cold meats and cheese ,and everything in between. If you’re planning a cheese board to enjoy at home, head to Millthorpe Providore for all your local goodies.

Antica Australis

Sitting on the corner of a quiet country town is the rustic Italian locanda, known as Antica Australis. Run by married couple, Paolo and Kelly Picarazzi, the Ciociarian slow food locanda and providore is a reason in itself to jump in the car for a five-hour trip to the charming town of Carcoar.

Tonic

Opened in 2003 by Tony and Nicola Worland, Tonic restaurant is located right in the centre of the village on the corner of Pym and Victoria St. With a menu focused on seasonal ingredients and local producers. Tony has had the honour of working beside chefs Matt Moran, Michael Manners and Gordon Ramsay. Visit Tonic for a little slice of fine dining in the central west town of Millthorpe.

Royal Hotel

Take a step back in time when you enter Carcoar’s local pub, the Royal hotel. The street’s go-to watering hole is cheap on beverages and has all your typical hearty pub food.

CELLAR DOORS

Slow Wine Co.

One of three cellar doors in Millthorpe, the Slow Wine Co is open all through the week for wine tastings, but if you’re visiting over the weekend make sure to book a table and taste some of the region’s wines. Open Friday and Saturday nights, the menu is focussed on small share plates including fried haloumi, sliders, arancini balls, and our personal favourite; honey and thyme baked camembert.

Angullong Cellar Door 

Drop into Millthorpe’s second cellar door, Angullong for a wine tasting. The building was built in the late 1800s as stables for the adjoining hotel but is now home to an intimate, enjoyable and relaxed cellar door experience.

Tamburlaine Cellar Door

The third and final cellar door in Millthorpe is Tamburlaine Cellar door only just opening in June 2020. Located in the historic Millthorpe General Store on Pym Street, the renovated space is managed by Cargo local and wine lover, Phoenix Kamsteeg.
