Tinshed Brewery

Brewing up a storm in Dungog

The Tinshed Brewery is owned and run by wife and husband team Haley and Jimmy. Jimmy started out with home brewing and caught the beer bug. Now they have a very successful brewing business that is well worth a visit when you’re in Dungog.

Opening in 2017, the Tinshed Brewery has a great undercover outdoor space where visitors can not only taste the hard work of the team through a variety of beers but also get a bit of nosh on the side. They offer a range of burgers such as the pulled pork burger or the smoked brisket burger but also some smaller snack options such as chicken nuggets or cheese and crackers.

But, naturally, this place is here for the beer. The Tinshed has 9 beers on tap with Jimmy and Nathan - the two head brewers, ensuring there is a beer for all tastes. There is the crowd favourite Tinshed Lager (3.5% mid-strength) to a pale ale and even a dark beer.

They are well known for brewing seasonal beers and unusual beers like the Chocolate Bunny Beer they brewed for the Easter period - just ask them what went into that one (hint it wasn’t a chocolate bunny).

The love of beer was contagious, so we just had to grab ourselves a tasting paddle. The surprising beer for us was one of their seasonal options - the Quince Berry Sour. This was a less intense sour beer than some we’ve tried, making it easy to drink and a good option for sour beer fans, wine, and non-beer drinkers.

There are other options for non-beer drinkers available such as Tilse’s Cider, Boydell’s wines, and other non-alcoholic options.
