The Shaka Shack

Smiths Lakes A-Frame Surf Shack

This vintage darling has undergone a complete renovation, retaining her 70s charm whilst offering luxe contemporary comforts.

In need of a quick break? We don’t blame you! If you've been looking into a post-corona vacay, we might have just found the best spot for you to relax, rejuvenate and forget all about the current craziness.

On a recent trip to the Great Lakes region, we had the opportunity to call into Smiths Lake, just a 30-minute drive from Forster, to check out the ultimate surf lover’s shack, the Shaka Shack.

This A-Frame vintage shack, went from shabby to chic when Newcastle couple, Sheena and Todd got their hands on the property and injected some much-needed colour, personality and style. Completely gutting the space, Shaka Shack officially came to life in 2018 and is now available to rent for your next getaway.

Situated smack bam in the middle of the area’s best surf breaks, surfers (and beach lovers) will have endless ocean opportunities. With Cellito, Blueys, Boomerang and Seal Rocks only a stone throws away (well, more like a short drive).

If still waters are more your thing, Smiths Lake is your number one choice in the Pacific Palms area. Shrouded by lush greenery and quiet neighbourhoods, the area is a favourite for those looking to enjoy water-skiing, boating, paddling or even windsurfing.

Start the morning right with a Bondi Circus cold brew from the fridge or go cocoNUTS with a freshly opened coconut. Recline in that dreamy hanging chair and bring in those sunny Sunday siesta whilst keeping those Monday blues well away.

The two-bedroom shack is complete with beautifully bespoke furniture and homewares, with each piece adding to the overall character of the property. Think cane furniture paired with soft natural furnishings, heading into the bathroom you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the turquoise scalloped tiles, matching with the same colour pops throughout the property.

Brought to life with pieces from local stores, vintage spots and even online, including pieces like the placemats from our very own local homeware store Common Circus and wall hangings from edde.

The two bedrooms each have their own distinct personality, the main room boasting more turquoise colourings with a private balcony perfect for watching the day go by with a book in one hand and a glass of wine in the other.

The guest room light, bright, and airy bohemian style overlooks the lush green rainforest that surrounds the back of the property. Wake up to the birds chirping and the sun squeezing its way through tree branches.

Whether it’s a break from your day-to-day, a surf getaway or a creative break that you’re after, the Shaka Shack offers a light, homey base for all.
