Brought to you by two local couples, co-founders of local retail boutique Saddler & Co; Bede and Jemima Aldridge, and Ric and Moir Jones, The Repose was launched in late 2019.
“As friends and long-time locals, we are using our collective strengths to create a holistic experience of design and hospitality. We are bound by a common memory, of the families who traveled from Europe to make Australia home.”
The artisan designed accommodation is situated right in the heart of town, but you wouldn’t know it. Take just one step inside and you could be anywhere. With each detail throughout these humble worker’s cottage thoughtfully curated, the light-filled property is nothing short of a dream.
Originally built as accommodation for miners in the early 1900s, the quaint row of timber cottages you see on the street were transported to Dubbo from Cobar. With the high timber ceilings and original timber flooring being completely restored by hand, and interiors personally curated by Jemima.
“We’ve restored by hand. Each element considered. Now we share with you this cottage of local history. A curation of work by artisans in many fields. As you wander through the rooms, notice the touch of a maker in every space. This is a space of holistic, refined design to encourage quietude. A base to explore our wide-open country.”
The two-bedroom accommodation centres around the private courtyard that was built by hand to reflect the owners’ European influences.
The long hallway is complete with reclaimed French timber windows welcoming in the light during the colder months and cool breeze during the strong summer heat. The modern walkway connects the cottage to the old outhouse, which now hosts the luxuriously crafted bathroom.
The bathroom is complete with an original iron claw foot bath, bespoke tiles, brass tapware, Aesop toiletries, and luxurious towels. Spend the night soaking in the reclaimed tub with custom-made bath soak compliments of The Repose.
