Big Wednesday

It’s time to put the board on the roof and head north

Just a three-hour drive from Newcastle, Crescent Head boasts one of Australia’s best surf beaches, famous for its long, slow right-hand break and kid-friendly crystal clear lagoon.

Crescent Head itself is a laid back, little surf town with a bakery, a caravan park, a country club, and a few shops. It’s a quintessential Australian surf town, where it feels like you’ve wound the clock back 30 years; making it perfect for a relaxing summer holiday. Here you can enjoy the simplicity of long days at the beach, afternoon naps on the verandah, and fish and chips for dinner under the stars.

Stay

On our recent trip to Crescent Head, we stayed at the iconic Big Wednesday, a big ol' Queenslander situated in the main street (Main Street), just a few doors up from the famous Barnett’s Bakery. This stylish surf shack is walking distance to the beach, the shops, and the watering holes. Once you arrive, park the car and ditch the keys!

The character-filled cottage oozes coastal charm, with beautiful styling, stained glass windows, and original Queenslander architectural features. The wrap-around verandah is perfect for catching the afternoon sea breezes and enjoying a cold beer after a day at the beach.

The property sleeps up to eight guests across its three bedrooms.

A little coastal, a little chic. When you stay at Big Wednesday, you'll be getting all the tropical island feels without leaving Australia.
