The Mexican Cantina started some 10 years ago in Wollombi by two friends, Sasha and Nat. At the time they were running a café together and were asked to do a street stall for a local event and decided burritos was the way to go.
"From there it gradually grew," explains Sash. "We do all the concerts out at Hope Estate. We sold the café last year and bought our first van and that's when we started doing events in Newcastle."
Storing their van in Carrington and their presence at Newcastle events such as Street Feast led to the girls at The Grateful approaching them to set up a van permanently behind their boutique.
"It was the right time and the right spot for us…we met the girls for coffee and it felt right straight away."
This has now led to three of Newcastle's favourite feel good businesses uniting and opening their hearts to create Newcastle's newest adult and kid friendly playground in the heart of Carrington, 'Island Life'.
The three businesses, The Grateful Boutique, Pineapple Fitness and The Mexican Cantina may initially all sound very different, but once you explore a bit deeper, you'll discover at the core they're essentially very similar. Each business shares a common purpose, to support people to become happier in themselves, one through physical movement, one through local healthy food and one through giving.
The Mexican Cantina offers the same menu you will find at any of their other events plus a few regular specials including favourites such as pulled beef nachos and a chicken burrito.
