The Grateful

Newcastle’s very own answer to TOMS Shoes, thankyou. Water, Oxfam Store and Who Gives A Crap

Do something nice for yourself and a complete stranger!

Meet Jess and Amee, the lovely ladies behind this awesome business. Not content on just being friends Jess and Amee wanted to start a business together that was all about making others feel good and spoiling yourself at the same time, and now The Grateful Boutique has found their perfect home in a brand new space perfectly centred in the heart of Carrington, and conveniently located right next door to, Ground Up.

The Grateful Boutique

So what is The Grateful? It's a one-for-one pay it forward happiness project that provides a beautiful and easy solution for everyone in our community to be able to give back in some way. Whether you are: socially conscious, a patriotic Novocastrian, a little alternative or trend follower, there’s something to help you fill up your feel good cup...

For now though while we’re all in lock-down for COVID-19 The Grateful Boutique has moved online to do their bit and stop the spread. Their online boutique showcases perfect ISO outfit pieces to keep you motivated to get out of bed each morning and excited for the day ahead, all while looking cute, cool and comfy. They’ve also created some really heartfelt local gift boxes to cater for nearly everyone! Each gift box supports local creatives, environmentally and sustainable  gifts, a proportion of the price is paid-forward on your behalf to Got Your Back Sista and you’ll be supporting the beautiful girls behind The Grateful and their families.

Delivery is FREE for reasonably located addresses in Newcastle or postage is also available.

Visit www.thegrateful.com.au to view their boutique.

Inner city Carrington and surrounding residents have devoured the Grateful concept and thanks to their love, support and purchases this small pay-it-forward boutique has raised over $7,000 for local charity Got Your Back Sista in just nine months! The money raised is used to sponsor ladies from domestic violence, in refuge or on the streets to take critical life saving self defence classes.

The Grateful

The store front boutique offers flowers (locally grown & put together by The Grateful), but also contemporary clothing for ladies, men and kids, plus gifts, homewares and accessories, something for everyone. Over 90% of the suppliers they stock are local, many of which are also social enterprises and either create products to protect the environment and/or give back to an integral cause. For every $0 to $25 you spend in-store, The Grateful pay forward $1 on your behalf to Got Your Back Sista.

You may better know The Grateful for the 100,000s of smiles they have created at the John Hunter Hospital through their floral good vibes. Their Grateful Bouquet Program launched two years ago and to date they have paid forward close to 6,000 bouquets to the John Hunter Hospital and Ronald McDonald House on behalf of the local community.

Lead Founder and Driver of Happiness Jessica Shuwalow says,

“Everything about what we get to do is magical! From meeting the amazing people that stumble across our store either online or in person and seeing their faces light up as they walk in and thanking us for creating this ‘shop’ in the Carrington community; to being the ones that get to deliver people’s well wishes to a loved one, or delivering donated posies each week to the hospital on behalf of our community.

And then, there’s the abundance of inspirational people in our community that have set up the charities we pay forward to, the creatives in our community that develop the awesome products we get to stock and just your everyday humans that visit us and share their story.”

It's really simple to get involved, either order yourself, or someone you care about, a One-Off Bouquet or sign up to be part of The Grateful Bouquet Program weekly flower subscription. At the beginning of the week you'll receive your fresh flowers and then (usually on a Friday) the ladies will deliver your donated bouquet to The John Hunter Hospital & Ronald McDonald House to brighten the day of the patients, the staff that dedicate their lives to helping others and the families of those in need.

Best yet you'll then receive the story and photo of who received your delivery.
