If you’ve ever been down Brunker Road you’re certain to have gone past the buzzing shed on the corner of Brunker & Mandalong Roads.
The Barn at Adamstown opened its door to the public just a short 6 months ago, bringing the area what it was screaming for; seriously good coffee, food, and vibes.
What sparked the opening of The Barn, actually started following the return of the owners, Natalie and Matt after adventuring around the country, and Matt wanted to get off the tools.
“We were travelling around Australia and I’d been a wall and floor tiler for 25 years, and I just wanted to get off the tools, and we didn’t know what else we’d do. So, we came back and bought an old caravan and see if we could sell some coffees… it’s now out the front of Adamstown Bowling Club”
That old caravan is what many of you might know as The Bondwood, travelling cafe and bar. Renovating the 1950s van into its former glory with all the mod cons and filled with the finest coffee from Crema Coffee Garage and serving up the best toasties and acai bowls.
With The Bondwood being such a hit with the locals, the pair decided it was time to bring something more to the suburb of Adamstown.
“There wasn’t much in the area of this size, that could cater for families, dogs and everything”
The space has had quite the turnaround, starting as just an empty shed with no water and no power. The pair had to do everything from the inside out, but
they had the perfect shell to start with.
“It’s an easy concept, the shed was already here, and we just had to dress it up. We wanted to make it affordable, good portions and simple cafe food”
Neither Natalie or Matt had experience or a background in the hospitality industry but have always managed to fall on their feet.
“The staff are amazing, they’ve really taught us everything. Without the staff and chefs, we wouldn’t be where we are now”
Always bringing in new ideas to the space, they recently held their first dinner and head along over the weekends and get a glimpse of their live music.
“We do a little bit of live music on Saturdays and Sundays with local up and coming performers”
Check out The Barn at Adamstown for their all day menu or head along to Adamstown Bowlo to say hello to The Bondwood for your coffee and toastie fix.
