When you get asked to spend the weekend in Sydney eating, drinking and suite-ing it up, your calendar all of sudden becomes clear....

and that's exactly what happened when I was asked to overnight, along with my other half Wade, at the Fraser Suites Sydney and then do a whole lot of eating and drinking. Tough gig but someone had to do it.

Chippendale is where our weekend was at, not a suburb of Sydney that's been on my radar, but it certainly threw out plenty of surprises with what was a tight itinerary.

Arriving at the Fraser Suites we didn’t have much time to do anything but drop our bags off, take in the extremely high view, and order an uber to the first stop at....

Handpicked Wines, which was a treat. I went crazy shooting the sweet exposed brick interior before settling into a tasting. There’s something about wine tasting that makes it feel acceptable to be drinking before lunch.

Out of myself and Wade, I’m the wine drinker. I’m an absolute fiend for a good red.  So I happily handed over the camera to my 'assistant' to continue shooting while I did some ‘serious research’.

The awesome thing about Handpicked is the fact that unlike most wineries, they do not limit themselves to one region or style. Instead, they aim to lead wine lovers on a journey through the world’s finest wine regions.

After finishing at Handpicked Wines we had a little bit of time before lunch so we made our way down Spice Alley.

Spice Alley

Wow. Six hawker-style eateries under a ceiling of lanterns, the laneway meanders through a landscape of Asian cuisine. Plus it has kick-ass street art.

Afterwards, we made our way back onto Kensington Street to our lunch spot, Mekong.

Described as Asian Fusion Mekong's menu, designed by acclaimed Chef Tiw Rakarin, boasts a culinary terrain drawn from recipes passed through the Indochine provinces.

The hardest part about dining here was trying to decide what to eat. Eventually Wade and I, with some help from the wonderful maître d, settled on a share plate to begin so that we could try a bit of everything. I couldn’t choose a highlight of this dish.

The crab tacos, grilled scallops and seafood crepes were all as mouth-watering as they were beautiful to look at. Next Wade chose the Stir Fried Crispy Pork Belly whilst I went for the Burmese King Prawns. By the time we made our best attempt to finish our lunch, we devastatingly could not fit in dessert.

Content and full we made our way back to the Fraser Suites, enjoyed the enormous indoor pool and relaxed into the night. Dinner was definitely only going to be light tonight.

Waking up the next morning we enjoyed those floor to ceiling views for just a little longer before setting off to see those two sad fur baby faces we left behind for the night.
