Rome wasn’t built in a day – but Market St Basement transitioned to Italian overnight.

One of my personal favourite venues across Newcastle made the exciting decision to change things up prior to corona – and it almost went unnoticed. If it weren’t for the loyal customers getting their weekly Market St Basement fix, and for the hungry Novocastrians looking for restaurants opening takeaway, Market St Basement’s new Italian menu might have been a surprise to us all!

Launching their Italian menu in early March, just one week before shutdowns happened across Australia, Market St Basement on Market St has managed to switch to takeaway and delivery to keep their loyal customer's bellies full of Italian carbs!

Just like so many hospitality venues across the city, Market St Basement adapted their business model by whipping together a take-away menu only eight days after launching their Italian foodie offering. Further to this, the team managed to work on delivery methods with UberEats, Deliveroo and MenuLog.

With Italian chef, Simona at the helm, she’s pumping out all the best of Italian flavours including her house-made lasagne – perfect for those who can’t be bothered cooking but are still after that ‘home-cooked’ deliciousness.

The HUGE menu caters for all your Italian favourites, from three antipasto boards, all the best Italian entrees; including arancini and bruschetta, nine pasta dishes to pick from as well as nine pizza toppings, paired perfectly with one of their side salads and finished off with the pezzo di resistenza; Nutella pizza!

Treat yourself for a dinner for one, or get the family sorted with a spread of all the goodies from Market St Basement. Make a night of it, and create your own at-home Italian restaurant by setting the scene with background music, a dimly lit space and finish it off with a bottle of vino from the restaurant (only available if picking up).

We have no doubt that the dark, sexy and sophisticated bar will be pumping like no tomorrow once restrictions are lifted. With the perfect intimate setting, we can’t wait to see Market St Basement on Market Street hosting first dates, girl’s nights out and long nights of cocktails once more.
