Eco cardboard desks and play products for the little ones

If you have kids living at home, chances are that school has recently been taking place in your loungeroom, a corner in the kitchen or on the dining table.

Throw in the addition of parents working from home, Zoom meetings, meal preparation and toddler craft and it feels like we’re all living on top of one another! Kids need their own space, especially for learning, even if it’s a temporary measure during this stay-at-home period in our lives.

This is where The Little Cardboard Co comes in, producing eco cardboard desks and chairs for kindy to early primary school-aged children.

Colleagues Claire Oxenham and Hamish McLean are both from Adamstown, and work in permanent point-of-sale design producing displays of primarily metal and timber, and occasionally cardboard. Being parents themselves, they know first-hand what this transition of schooling from home has been like, with Claire saying “Once we started homeschooling, we realised how vital it was for kids to have their own space, and their own things to do. I didn’t want something plastic, or to buy more furniture. This is something temporary that can be recycled later.”

The first prototypes were tested on their own kids, and Claire knew they were on to a winner.

The basic desk is easy to assemble, and is available in several designs, like Alphabet, World Map or the black and white Camping or Pencil patterns. The topper is interchangeable and can be purchased separately.

The Little Cardboard Co isn’t just about desks and schoolwork. They also produce a range of play spaces that have proven to be very popular. The selection includes a cubby house, a castle, a circus tent, a car or a burger stall all printed in black and white for the kids to decorate with their own flair.
