SheVar

A careful balance of trendy, sustainable pieces right here in Adamstown

Forget online shopping, visit SheVar for the perfect outfit

Adamstown is slowly becoming the birthplace of many fashion-conscious boutiques. One of these businesses is SheVar, run by two local women Tanya Pudney and Sheree Varnum.

I dropped by to have a chat to Sheree about what makes their store so unique.

SheVar fits the mould if you’re after the look of 'don’t want to be seen in the same top' or “Oh I got this from a little boutique in the suburbs”. The store is filled with gorgeous one-off pieces, that will make your friends envious and your wardrobe smile.

"The whole focus we have is trying to get items in that are a little bit different. We have labels that no one else in Newcastle has," Sheree told me.

Starting off as Brunker Collective in 2017, the business has grown into something of a community hotspot for all your fashion needs. Alongside the boutique is Tanya’s sister business, Brunker Barbers. So yes, I have found another excuse for you to shop, while the hubby gets tidied up next door. You’ll both leave looking like better versions of yourself.

Expect to find exclusive brands such as Noosa favourite, Hut and Harriet Jane, who takes her own nature photography and has the prints put onto natural fabrics such as linen, silk and lotus fabric in Sheree and Tanya's store.

Sheree encourages her customers to shop locally, not only does this mean you are supporting local businesses but your purchases go towards helping support small communities in Sri Lanka. From ethically sustained paper pottery to handmade brooms, SherVa has jumped on the bandwagon for sustainable shopping.

My personal favourite in the homewares area is the Mojo soy candles made from old beer and wine bottles, perfect for your home if you want that effortlessly rustic feeling. As well as eco-friendly, natural cleaning products from Melbourne based company Eculove.

Along with unique clothing items, SheVar also stocks statement jewellery pieces and handmade accessories. Making this little Adamstown store, your one stop shop if you’re in need of a new outfit, a gift for mum or you just want to treat yourself.

So pop in and see the Shevar ladies for some old school customer service that you won't find on any online shopping site.
