You might have seen Scrubba Body popping up across town over the years, from the local markets, to pop-up stores in Charlestown Square or their shared space on Darby Street they had a while back. Well, the local skincare duo, Josh and Jase have officially opened their own space right in the heart of Marketown West (Coles side).

The pair have been building the brand from their loungeroom over the past four years, and after tossing the idea around of getting their own space, an offer from Marketown popped up that they just couldn’t resist.

“We originally started looking for a shed space, because at home we’re just shimming between boxes. Marketown actually contacted us after we had done a pop-up over the Christmas period,” Josh told me.

Growing from their original (and mighty popular) Body Scrub product, Scrubba Body now stocks 75 products from bath and skincare essentials to soy candles and melts. The entire range is handmade in Australia (mostly in-store), all-natural, vegan and cruelty free, with the original idea to create a product for people struggling with eczema.

“Scrubba Body started out when we were looking for an affordable, natural & cruelty free product we could use to help exfoliate and also help out with eczema. After a lot of research and experimentation, our body scrubs were born.”

Just chatting to Josh as we walked around the newly decked out retail space, you can’t help but notice the absolute passion and excitement in his voice.

“There’s highs and lows of having a small business. The highs are that it is just so fulfilling, but it’s a lot of work, stress and big nights. But I’m doing it all for myself not for anyone else, which makes it worth it.”

Originally, they had planned to move into a space in Marketown East, but one week before they were due to open the plan had changed and Marketown West was to be the new home. With four full days of renovating, the pair managed to pull it off.

“We were really lucky when we moved in, the counter was already here and the built-in cabinets. All I had to do was build the bench at the back of the shop. I’ve got the scars to prove it!”

The space will be utilised not only for their retail sales, but also offering workshops at the back of the store and events in the future. Shoppers can expect a DIY Body Scrub workshops and partnerships with other local brands.

Whilst the store is full to the brim of all your Scrubba Body favourites, they’ve also included a number of other local goodies including posies from Blooms on Darby and terrariums from White Space crafts.

“All very complementary brands, and Blooms and White Space are obviously local. But also, that handmade vibe and products that encourage relaxing, because that’s what we’re all about.”

Looking to the future, Scrubba Body has been gallivanting across the country doing trade shows to be able to focus more on wholesale, as well as plans to create some new products including some lip scrubs in time for winter.

“We’ve just cracked over 70 stockists in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. If we can keep growing that, that would be great.”

Whilst the store is still open, you can get in to have a look of their products yourself, or head online to browse their entire range and even look at their ready-made gift packs.
