What can you fynde on Beaumont St?
If you’re a lover or regular of vintage shopping around Newcastle, then there’s no doubt you’ve come across this space on Beaumont St. What used to be the local favourite, Just Because by Heather, has been taken over by another local vintage lover, Renee Holt and has received a little bit of a facelift in the form of a brand-new name; fynde.
The Newcastle-born and bred local has been a long-time lover of vintage and second-hand pieces, so much so, she’s spent the last seven years managing her mum’s space, Secondary on Clyde St.
“Mum has always been in the second-hand business so naturally; it has just been a part of me. I’ve passed on a bit of it onto my two children as well, just to let them know that there’s another way to shop,” Renee said.
fynde came to life in late February 2021 and has been welcoming the community in-store to experience the new-faced vintage and second-hand store on Beaumont Street.
“Heather used to be over where mum was and when she was moving out of there, she rang my mum and gave her that space. Then when Heather was selling here, she rang mum again and then it just fell into place of me taking over. It’s just done this beautiful circle.
“My fiancé has had my back the whole time and reassures me daily that I can do this.”
So, jump at the opportunity she did.
Whilst the store still has some of the typical goods you might have found at Just Because by Heather, Renee has definitely injected some of her own style with quirky but simple pieces.
“I’m trying to keep a little bit of Heather with the retro-vintage, but I’ve got to still be me. So, we do a little bit of everything in here. It’s just quirky pieces that people can get at a really good price; that’s what I’m about!”
Now, what about that name?
“It was doing my head in coming up with a name. Everyone was trying to give me advice, and then mum just said what about find? Which I really liked but it still wasn’t quite right. Then I caught up with Sarah and her partner just said why don’t you spell it fynde. We both just looked at each other and said done!”
Shoppers just won’t know what they’re going to fynde…
With the area just booming with second-hand, vintage, and unique boutique stores, the arrival of fynde is calling you for a shop around Islington. With the likes of Stoned Saint Moon, Yardsale Trading Co, The Conscious Exchange, Hide + Seeker, Eclectic Corner, and more within walking distance; you won’t be short on discovering interesting finds!
“I think it’s nice that there’s a lot in this area of Islington but we’re all offering something a little bit different. Everyone in the area has also really made the effort to pop in and say hello, it’s been really nice considering I’m the new kid on the block!”
Just like any second-hand and vintage store, fynde is always going to be updating and changing their goods around, so Renee has one final message for anyone considering a drop into fynde.
“Expect the unexpected. You just never know what you’re going to fynde.”
