Since 1970 there has been an Italian restaurant occupying 98 Maitland Rd in Islington. Originally called Giuseppe's, the name was then changed to Pino's in the 2000s and has remained with that name ever since, despite the change in owners.
Although Murrie, Knives and Sam (who you might know from The Press) had not planned on opening an Italian restaurant Knives explains that when this building came up “we thought we better not f%#k with it…too much history”.
With Knives currently the only person in the kitchen, the menu is kept small, however, changing weekly keeping it fresh and exciting.
With around four appetisers, two pasta options for mains, and a few desserts it is the perfect menu to taste a bit of everything and share with two or three people.
“The whole menu is vegan and always will be,” explains Knives who is a vegan himself. However, you will not see this advertised anywhere, they don’t want to label it, to them it is just delicious food.
Using locally sourced produce, besides the traditional Italian stuff that is imported from the homeland, like pasta and tomatoes.
With an authentic and kitsch vibe filling the small space, Pino's is a unique mix of delicious Italian food and hip-hop music.
