For ocean loving, salty people

6:30am. For most (ok maybe just me) this is early, and a time not ever on my radar. But waking up and heading down to the beach, even though it was a bit foggy this particular morning, was so worth it. I was feeling fresh, and confident I was blending right in with all the other morning people.
Started by Hayden Beck in October 2017, the Newy Swim Crew is an informal swimming group who swim approximately 500m each way along Newcastle Beach.
Surfers, pro swimmers, lifesavers, and people of all swimming levels (so long as you can swim at least 1 kilometre) are all welcome to join in.
Hayden, originally from the Northern Beaches, had got the idea from other ocean swim groups in Sydney and saw it as a great way to build a community in the East End with other ocean loving people.
Summer or Winter, rain or shine, I think it would take a lot for the Newy Swim Crew to miss a swim and when the swell is too big there is always the Newcastle baths as their back up.
Despite the fog it was hard to miss them with their bright yellow swimming caps and an awesome logo designed by one of their own, Liss Finney.
After the swim it's straight up to the Newcastle Kiosk for a coffee- perfect start to a Friday morning!
