STRONG Pilates introduces a world-first reformer innovation to Newcastle
It may come as no surprise to those who love Pilates that - according to ClassPass, the fitness subscription platform - Pilates is the fastest growing form of fitness in the world. Newcastle has been well across this fitness trend, and amongst the crowd one studio has led the way with its innovative approach.
In December 2021 STRONG Pilates burst onto the scene, opening its first Newcastle studio in Broadmeadow, and despite the tough Covid timing the team hit back, opening a second studio in Warners Bay in May 2023.

Today the Broadmeadow studio can lay claim to being the first STRONG studio in NSW, and just the seventh studio in the STRONG network, a now global brand with over 80 studios operating.
What is STRONG Pilates?
If you’re yet to try STRONG Pilates, you can expect a high-intensity, low impact, full body workout that combines rowing and bikes with Pilates-inspired movements that use innovative Rowformer and Bikeformer machines. In each class you have the choice to Row or Ride, but Reform always!

What’s different about STRONG Pilates?
Unlike regular Pilates, STRONG allows for elevated heart rate by using the row or bike side, then transitioning back to the Pilates side, and omits high impact movement such as plyometrics, running and heavy free-weights, which increase the risk of injury. Working at this increased intensity results in substantial calorie burn which helps you to burn body fat whilst receiving all the benefits of Pilates. STRONG is bridging the gap between traditional strength training and Pilates.

What’s new in 2025?
Not content with its already unique offering, thanks to a new innovative system developed by STRONG Pilates, things are about to get a whole lot more intense.
Welcome to the Reverse Spring System, a next-level strength training system that launched on January 20. Speaking with Lily, co-owner of STRONG Pilates Broadmeadow and Warners Bay, Lily explained how the Reverse Spring System works,

“Our Rowformer machine now features a unique spring system, which loads the back platform all the way to the front, allowing you to lift over 40kg on a reformer bed. This replicates the power of traditional strength training movements — like squats and deadlifts — but with low impact, taking your training to a new level.
“Months of hard work, design and testing have gone into our latest innovation - and there’s not a reformer workout in the world that can do what we’re doing.”
What can you expect from a Reverse Spring System workout?
Combining the intensity of strength training with the benefits of spring-loaded tension, the Reverse Spring System creates a safe, controlled environment that challenges your body in ways you’ve never experienced before. The workout provides unmatched muscle activation and adaptive challenges that the traditional reformer can’t provide.
Lily explains further,
“The system introduces a powerful new stimulus that keeps your body constantly adapting to break through plateaus and achieve faster, more dramatic results than any other Pilates program. No need for multiple gym memberships or packages. We are all you need in one 45-minute class."
"We’re so proud of our innovation that we’ve released a new Intro Offer - 4 Classes for just $40. We've opened this to everyone, so even past STRONG Humans can come back for the new experience."

Lily says, “STRONG is genuinely unique as you cannot access it anywhere else globally, and we’re so proud to be able to bring such an innovative brand to Newcastle, before Sydney even got it.
“Hearing stories of how STRONG has positively impacted people's lives beyond the physical, are our highlights from the past 3 years. For some, this is the longest they’ve ever stuck to something and it’s changed their lives. They feel like they are a better version of themselves and can’t imagine life without us.
Lily also let us in on a little secret, “we have plans for more studios for our Newcastle community soon.” So stay tuned for more news on where you can find the next STRONG Pilates soon.
