Abicus
This Darby Street boutique has been bringing fashion, footwear, and apparel to Newcastle for over 20 years. Owners Tiffany Minell and Tim McPhee are still as passionate as ever about delivering a thoughtfully curated lineup of men’s and women’s apparel and accessories, together with a specialised catalogue of vinyl.

Akuna Cafe
This cult classic of a cafe in Newcastle’s beachside suburb of Merewether has been an icon in the local cafe scene since its launch back in 2018. One of the first venues in town to really nail the acai bowl brief, Akuna has continued to offer an almost identical menu to the one it launched with six years ago.

Antojitos
Need an authentic Mexican street food fix? Look no further than Antojitos on Newcastle West’s Steel Street. Step into this industrial diner that’s bursting with authentic and traditional Mexican street food flavours.

Autumn Rooms
It’s become one of Newcastle’s favourite destinations to dine in and collect your morning cup of coffee from. The relaxed atmosphere and ever-evolving food and drinks menu is why everyone from couples to family get togethers, friends catching up and those informal business meetings continue to flock to Darby Street.

Bartholomew’s
Entering Bartholomew’s feels like you’ve stepped back into the 1920s – chandeliers dangle from the high ceilings, bottles of spirits line the back wall, and tiered theatre-style balconies frame the space in a nod to the venue’s history. It’s a remarkable venue in Newcastle, and serves up delicious fare and quality cocktails to go with its grand interior.

Baked Uprising
Baked Uprising has that industrial warehouse feel to it that you would expect to find walking around Sydney’s Surry Hills. Step in and experience their delicious range of freshly baked cakes, pastries, tarts, brioche, and breads.

Biggs
Small in size but big on energy, Biggs is focused on serving quality coffee with beans from Glitch Coffee Roasters. When it comes to the food, expect a tasty grab-and-go style cafe menu that features all your favourite on-the-run eats.

Brought to you by the same friendly team behind The Junction’s Talulah, diners can expect that same welcoming hospitality, but with a fresh new personality.

Cakeboi
Cakeboi is former MasterChef contestant Reece Hignell’s first step into the retail world and it’s a pretty darn special experience for cake lovers.

Side Pocket Espresso
Located outside the better known cafe soaked suburbs of Newcastle, you’ll come across Side Pocket Espresso – tucked away in a tiny corner of Mayfield. A little unexpected but a lot to like.

Over recent years, we’ve followed the gradual rebirth of one of Newcastle’s go-to pubs. The Grand Hotel’s transformation has seen the rejuvenation of the venue’s downstairs space, The Underground, to the complete refurb of the former pokies area turned dining space, Henry’s Parlour.

THINGS TO DO
Anzac Memorial Walk
The Anzac Memorial Walk is Newcastle’s most spectacular coastal walk, runs parallel to Memorial Drive and complements the existing Bathers Way walk sections from Nobbys to King Edward Park, Bar Beach to Merewether, and beyond.
Bogey Hole
Newcastle’s Bogey Hole is an absolute must see in Newcastle. Situated at the foot of Shepherds Hill, it’s one of Newcastle’s best purpose-built ocean pools.
Hickson St Lookout
Known as a hang gliding take-off spot and a favourite for picnickers, Hickson St lookout is also the starting point for a walk down to Burwood Beach. Whilst the descent is rather easy, be prepared for the steep short walk back up!
King Edward Park
An iconic Newcastle park, King Edward Park is a local favourite for a picnic on a sunny day. Featuring beautiful gardens, towering Norfolk pines, and manicured lawns, there’s plenty of spots in King Edward Park to throw down a rug and get snacking.
