Meet, Melissa Jean Charters, the brains behind The Junction-based skin clinic, Melissa Jean Skin Therapy.

“Our approach to skincare not only provides you with a mini midweek getaway but also significant results, every time,” Melissa shared.

If you’re one to always follow the trends when it comes to skin, you’ll well and truly have heard of this local business. Having been serving the local community for the last six years under Melissa Jean Beauty, 2021 saw it time for the business to mature into Melissa Jean Skin Therapy.

“The business was naturally heading towards skin base treatments. We still do a small number of beauty services, but our main focus now is skin therapy – hence the name change. It was fitting with where the business focus is at.”

With early experiences with skin troubles, Melissa always had a keen interest in understanding skin. Having left high school in year 10, Melissa went on to complete her Diploma in Beauty Therapy in 2005.

“I always had an interest in skin therapy and wanted to understand why the skin presents itself in the ways it does. My main goal is to make my clients feel comfortable in their own skin and for my clients to understand why the issues with their skin are occurring.”

Having kicked off the business in 2015 and building itself a reputation for all things beauty in the heart of The Junction, 2021 saw it time to take the plunge into cementing themselves as one of Newcastle’s premier skin institutions.

“Over the last six years, my staff numbers have increased, and we have been running out of space. Change was needed, however, I still wanted a boutique feel and I love The Junction location.

“I teamed up with Keeley from Something More and Nathan from Lawrence Build to help me design the space. My main goal was to continue that home feel and create a comfortable, inviting environment for the clients rather than the typical clinic style.”

Not stopping there, Melissa has also just launched the local business’ newest offering, The Bridal Room. Curating a range of skincare and beauty packages for the soon-to-be brides and bridesmaids, The Bridal Room is the answer to all of your skincare questions leading up to your wedding day.

“The Bridal Room has been a project of mine for a while now. We get a lot of brides to be coming through the salon. Most of the time they are very confused on where to start and are overwhelmed with their skin journey.

“The aim will be to deliver an easy step-by-step process for our brides so that they can enjoy this exciting time as much as possible and not have to think or worry about the process.”
