Our most clicked, shared & liked articles of 2019

From bars, restaurants, cafes, and events. Check out the 20 articles that topped the HUNTERhunter charts for 2019.

2019, the year that brought a lot of ups as well as a lot of downs. The city saw a lot of changes with the arrival of the light rail, the closure of many favourite venues and the opening of some exciting new ones!

We waved goodbye to some of our favourite venues such as the Flying Tiger, Pork Ewe’s Darby St store, Reserve Bar, Bonta Vera, and Screemin’ Veemis; just to name a few.

But we also greeted some newbies. From the foodie scene we said hello to the recently opened Signal Box and Earp Distilling as well as already local favourites Edmonds & Co in the East End, Flotilla in Wickham as well as Besties, New Slang Coffee Brewers and Bella Italia.

Newcastle’s retail scene changed with the addition of UMIE Store and favourites such as Maker Store & Studio and High Swan Dives’s second space.

Refurbs and relocations were also a theme of 2019, with old favourites The Prince of Merewether, Habesha, Hotel Jesmond, Una Volta, Bao Brothers, and even MEET.

HUNTERhunter even held their first ever event this year, The Dessert Bar, which was a real hit!
