Exhibition of new works by Tyler Dan
Tyler Dan was raised amidst the beautiful light of Southern California where she began exploring and developing her interest and natural talent for drawing.
A gifted athlete, Tyler concentrated on competitive volleyball and represented the University of Arizona. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in professional accounting.
During her studies, Tyler used drawing as a way of balancing her academic studies, or more so as a means of procrastination.
Now residing in Newcastle, her work is influenced by much of what she sees and experiences every day and her natural environment. Tyler has a keen interest in natural forms, architecture, textiles, and jewellery.
During the slower-paced year of 2020, Tyler found space to extend her practice moving from drawing to using paint as a medium and she has been prolific in her exploration of the abstract landscape. Her immersion into this exploration is described by Tyler as more of an ‘obsession.’
Her works aims to avoid symmetry and search for balance. An intuitive painter, Tyler does not approach the canvas with an exact plan for what each piece will become, she uses her relationship with colour and restricting her palettes to develop her abstractions arriving at an organic result.
This is Tyler’s first exhibition. Her works are fresh, raw and the markings of an exciting young artist. Reluctant to suggest that there is a definitive theme, however, the development of one idea leads into the next piece and if you look closely, you can ‘Follow the Thread.’
