Blushing on Hunter

Discover beauty bliss on Hunter Street

The ongoing revitalisation of Hunter Street Mall has been an exciting development in Newcastle’s East End, and beauty salon Blushing on Hunter has taken full advantage of the refreshed space.

Since opening in December 2022, Blushing on Hunter has hit the ground running, becoming a favourite with clients from the surrounding apartments and businesses.

While the salon’s main focus is all things nails, the team also specialise in eyelash extensions, brow services, waxing and cosmetic tattooing.

Owner Jennie Truong has over 19 years of experience in the beauty industry, with 10 years of those spent owning her own salon. But last year, she decided the time was finally right for her to open her own salon that wasn't in a large shopping centre.

“After working for years in large shopping centres, I got tired of having my life dictated by somebody else. I wanted a better work-life balance by operating on my terms and work hours,” Jennie said.

For Jennie, creating a physical space that matched the quality of the services Blushing on Hunter offers was important.

“I had a vision to create a space that not only offers great services but an experience of elegance. I wanted it to feel like you’re walking into a boutique, not just another typical nail bar,” she said.

The team at Studio Indra and Kim at RH Shop Fitting helped make Jennie’s vision come to life, which also led to the business’ name.

“We used a lot of pinks and nudes in our design palette, hence the name Blushing on Hunter,” Jennie said.

At the end of the day, Jennie feels grateful to have the opportunity to work with her daughter, Daisha, in a space that’s her own.

“I love working alongside my daughter, Daisha. She’s extremely talented and I couldn’t be more proud.”

When it comes to popular services at Blushing on Hunter, Jennie says her clients are loving BIAB gel. BIAB stands for ‘builder in a bottle’, and is a type of gel polish that’s better for your nails.

“It lasts from four to six weeks without any issues, you don’t get any cracking or chipping. It’s as strong as acrylic and SNS but less damaging because you’re coming in less often so you’re not filing the base of your nails as many times.”

Want to try BIAB gel for yourself? Why not take advantage of Blushing on Hunter’s extended weekday hours (8.30am-6.30pm), and book yourself a service at Hunter Street’s new beauty destination.
