If you’ve been around The Junction recently, a new peach shopfront may have caught your eye. Opening their doors mid Feb, Layered Home, created by local gal and interior designer, Stephanie Rose has brought a new furniture and homewares retail space to the area.

Walk on in to the warm, natural and inviting space and explore each cosy corner filled with stunning furniture and statement pieces.

Steph has been working in Newcastle as an interior designer since finishing her studies in 2014 and has been dreaming of having a space of her own for years.

“I got really serious about planning for it at the beginning of last year and I started putting together a business plan.

“I hooked up with the Newcastle Business Centre and actually completed a business course through them. That was really helpful because I learnt about the nitty gritty of business.”

The location was a no brainer for Steph,

“I had spotted this place for lease, and I really wanted it because the Junction was my number one spot. I’d thought about the CBD, I’d thought about Darby Street, but this is right in my target market. And to find a shop of this size at The Junction; was extremely lucky.”

So, what can you expect on a visit to Layered Home?

Quality furniture, a textile wall filed with all the designs you could ever want, as well as ready to buy and custom-made pieces. You can mix and match any piece, using the infographics throughout the store to help aid your decisions.

“My analogy was like buying an ice-cream. Instead of saying I want a waffle cone and two scoops of chocolate. You say I want the tribal chair in that fabric.”

A textile specialist, Steph has a passion for providing unrivalled fabric choice and she’ll advise you every step of the process. Helping you to create a layer of comfort and beauty to make your house a home.

Layered Home specialises in linen of all kinds- stonewashed, hand block prints as well as linen blends, jacquards, velvets, leather, embroidery, cotton prints, outdoor fabrics, ikats, mudcloth and shibori.

The store’s signature look has a natural and laid-back luxury feel. The larger furniture pieces are made to last forever, and paired with accessories you’ll be sure to bring some character into your home.

“We’re all about the layers, whether they’re rugs, side tables, cushions, throws, lighting, greenery, ceramics, books, art, and artefacts. These elements are what make your home comfortable, unique and reflect your personality.”

If you’re planning on heading in for a browse, a chat or even to just window shop, Layered Home truly is an inviting space that you might even want to just pull up a chair and enjoy an afternoon coffee or tea with Steph.

“I encourage people to pull out samples, pull out cushions, try them. I don’t even care if they move the furniture around and pull artworks down. This is really a place where people come, and they do stay for quite a long time.”

So, whether you’re looking for one custom-designed piece, or maybe you need help pulling your whole house together, Steph at Layered Home can help clarify your plans and give you the confidence to create the space of your dreams.
