Beautiful headpieces & hats in the Hunter St Mall
If you ask Jodie Thompson, of Jodie Louise Millinery, every outfit should be accompanied by a beautifully handcrafted headpiece, hat or show stopper of some sort.
Located within The Emporium on Newcastle’s Hunter Street Mall, from Wednesday to Saturday you can drop by Jodie’s little workspace and watch first hand as Jodie creates, makes and puts the finishing touches on her beautifully handcrafted hats and headpieces.
Making her first hat almost 25 years ago, Jodie’s creative flair first started out in the painting and sculpting world before deciding to switch to more wearable works of art.
Initially learning her trade under a milliner in Melbourne, combined with some self-teachings, not too much time passed before Jodie decided it was time to venture out on her own. Today Jodie’s headpieces can be spotted at all types of themed parties, weddings, of course track side, and even lounging around on some very fancy yachts.
Sourcing millinery supplies both locally and from across the globe, Jodie’s creative expression is nothing short of exquisite. When asked where her inspiration comes from Jodie quite simply says “things just pop out of my head”. Sometimes it’s a beautiful piece of vintage fabric that inspires, a colour and other times they evolve after chatting with her clients.
Now with the Spring Racing season just around the corner you really need to be thinking about all things fashion, and head wear. This year Jodie says that Fuscia and Black are the colours of the season.
