A fresh new look, menu and owner for this Darby Street cafe
Frankies is a superb spot for a relaxing weekend breaky, lunch, or dinner with an all-day breakfast menu there’s no eyebrows raised at a 2pm breakfast
order of a bacon and egg roll with double smoked black forest bacon, cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce. It’s the perfect hangover cure!
New owner Brian, took over the business in September and undertook a whirlwind six week renovation from top to bottom. Their new look is clean and sophisticated
with a bright and airy upstairs space and front verandah, along with a wonderfully leafy courtyard and comfy downstairs. Where you can “relax, unwind,
meet friends and chill,” as Brian explained.
The upstairs bar area is perfect for an intimate lunch people watching on Darby Street or private functions (for around 25 people).
Brian recently immigrated to Australia from his homeland of South Africa and has fallen head over heels in love with Newcastle. His enthusiasm is beaming, as is the staff who are passionate about coffee, food and service.
Darby Street is always a favourite of ours for breakfast or brunch, and Frankies delivers the goods with their big breakfast aka the Big One with the two eggs, double smoked bacon, hashbrown, mushrooms, chorizo, roasted tomatoes and toast. Or the indulgent Waffle with Bacon and Hazlenut Cream: a golden brown Belgian waffle served with double smoked Black Forest bacon, home-made mixed berry jam and hazelnut infused cream….. um sign me up!
Meanwhile their lunch menu features burgers, salads and some pasta dishes. How delicious does the seafood marinara look, or their gourmet steak sandwich!
You could easily while away the hours at Frankies, sitting back, relaxing and enjoying the people watching on Darby Street, whilst enjoying the hospitality of Brian and the team.
