Glee Coffee are back!
Yes, the team have returned, bringing their much loved coffee beans back to Newcastle.
Sure the guys haven’t stopped roasting since they closed their doors on Darby St in December 2016, so we’ve been able to enjoy a Glee coffee at home as well as at various other locations, but, we sure have missed those local Glee café vibes.
Now located in the old Locomotive café space on Maitland Rd, Mayfield, the café runs by the new name F I E L D (get it May F I E L D) and is as every bit as good as what we remember from the Darby St days, which started way back in 2011.
Along with a few more speciality coffee options the team have rejigged the space, brought in an awesome kitchen team and have created a magical out-the-back courtyard space that’s perfect for when you have kiddies and dogs in tow.
So what have the team been up to since leaving us in 2016? owner Beth took us on a bit of a Glee journey.
“When we started Glee on Darby St in 2011 it was just this tiny little hole in the wall, and at that point it really worked in Newy. Specialty coffee was just about to explode and in the five years we were on Darby St we witnessed this amazing, weird little surge of energy around speciality coffee and hospitality in general.”
“It felt like in the five years we were there everything changed, and it was so cool to see it happen. What we found was that people started coming in asking not just for coffee but quality food, which totally makes sense now, but at the time we were like, no we only do coffee, foods not our thing”.
“When we started opening our other locations in Erina, Wyong and Brisbane, we realised that no, you really do need to be able to offer both.”
“So now, coming back here in Mayfield it’s amazing that we can offer good food and coffee. It’s been good for us to go on that journey and discover that they do actually complement one another.”
Open seven days a week with a delicious brekkie and lunch menu F I E L D fits perfectly into the eclectic Mayfield scene and makes for the perfect catch up coffee spot.
