Bringing together original fashion designs, coffee and acai bowls on Darby Street
Testing out their designs online first, it was then off to the markets before deciding it was worth taking a risk and opening their own store. Wanting to bring something a little different to Newcastle Jacob and Nathan opened the WIA Store back in March 2015, and haven't looked back.
Described by Nathan as a men’s streetwear and lifestyle store, the brothers continue to work with local artists, like Mitch Revs, to stock a unique range of clothing that at times has a quirky Newy flavour to it. In store you’ll find a crisp retail space with the collection dispersed amongst massive graffiti artworks that take-over much of the walls. The clothing now also comes with coffee and acai bowls, as Nathan explained he wanted to mix things up and add something a little different into the space. Taking the lead from a good mate who introduced him to a more healthy way of life, together with a visit to South America, Nathan was won over by the power of the Acai berry and all its antioxidant good stuff.
Not wanting things to get too complicated the menu offers four different flavours; the Bar Beach, Dixon Park, Merewether and the slightly naughty DLR. Keeping the menu short allows much love to go into each bowl with Nathan and his sister helping to pump them out. With fresh fruit, acai, quinoa and a bunch of other stuff the bowls punch out a face full of flavour, fill you up and not have you wanting anything more, a bonus for those looking to keep the bulge away. It’s fair to say that they are some of the best darn acai bowls you’ll ever get your lips around.
If you’ve got some time take a seat on the deck amongst the always green grass, coffee in hand, that’s brought to you by boutique Sydney roaster Little Italy, acai bowl in the other and soak up the impressive art wall that’s courtesy of what was one of our most loved Newcastle festivals, Hit the Bricks.
Whether you’re on your way to work, walking back from the beach or heading out for some retail therapy head up the driveway and check out WIA.
