Owner and founder of The Tea Collective - Becci Fowler

For Becci Fowler, owner and founder of The Tea Collective, it’s this incorporation of ritual into our day-to-day routines, that inspires her.

Through her luxury and bespoke tea blends, handcrafted candles, and a range of other accessories, Becci invites you to stop, and to welcome ceremony, mindfulness, connection and reflection, even if only for a fleeting moment each day.

A seasoned-vet in the hospitality industry, and in the business of creating warm, inviting spaces and sensory experiences, Becci has spent years acquiring and refining her knowledge of tea and tea-blending processes.

After moving from her King St Tea House, to the much-loved Darby Street space above Autumn Rooms, The Tea Collective now has its own boutique warehouse in Mayfield West, where Becci can continue to build her business and hone her focus.

“I’ve got more time now to focus on my products and developing those. I’m trying to work with stockists to support them in selling the teas we make which, in turn, helps customers to better use and enjoy my products.”

Where Becci has previously had on offer an incredibly extensive range of products—selling around 120 different tea blends at her peak—she has now turned her attention to quality, rather than quantity, offering up 40 different blends currently, amongst a range of other tea-brewing accessories.

She prides herself on prioritising sustainability, making ethical choices, and keeping her products local, so she and her small team of five work busily to blend and package their products before shipping them to stockists both nationally and internationally.

“It’s a lot to do because it’s all done by hand and we’ve gathered more than 700 stockists in the past 18 months.”

Taking on the warehouse just prior to Covid, Becci was forced to consider how she could adapt to navigate the hardships experienced by so many business owners. Thankfully, her hard work paid off and she emerged from the pandemic stronger than ever, and continues to grow and expand.

“I’ve worked really hard—it was scary and organising the space was a big project. We cleaned, painted, cleaned it again and again! You’re always going to have ups and downs as a business … but when something goes wrong I just try and look at it as a learning curve.”

Now with a small shop in its foyer, as well as an online store, The Tea Collective’s range of products make for thoughtful gifts, sure to inspire relaxation in their lucky recipients. Infusers, teapots and iced-tea jugs line the shelves and accompany teas crafted with remedial qualities to aid with sleep, immunity, digestion, or simply to be enjoyed!

The products pair perfectly with The Tea Collective’s hand-poured candles, which also come in a variety of fragrances.

"We realised tea and candles go so well together, the perfect pair —they’re both about different ingredients, times, temperatures, blending and vessels. The Tea Collective is all about making space for everyday rituals, and about gifting."

Becci’s eye for detail and her dedication to the incorporation of self-care practices in everyday life is palpable. The warm, ambient space she has worked hard to establish in Mayfield is living-proof of this.
