Mayfield, look out there’s a new kid on the block
You might remember them from the bistro at Mayfield’s Bowling Club previously run by friendly couple, Head Chef Jason and Front of House Manager Sarah.
In Barrio 2304’s old space, Roy’s Kitchen is planning to follow in their footsteps with share plates and a cultivated wine list whilst selling their existing popular menu.
They offer diners a mouth-watering burger range with exciting share options such as the Baked Butternut & 3 Cheese Arancini w/ Mustard mayo.
They also offer flavoursome vegetarian and vegan options with their Crispy, Spiced and Fried Cauliflower and Curry Mayo as Sarah’s favourite pick and now ours too. Visitors can expect impressive weekly specials and menu rotations for a new dish to try on every welcomed visit.
Roy’s Kitchen is now operating with an alcohol licence and are keen to explore tasting nights to showcase their locally sourced, vegan and organic wine options.
They also plan on serving craft beers, spirits and whiskeys to complement particular dishes, utilising Jason’s background working in bars across Newcastle.
“One of my first gigs was at Custom House and then I got to run the Coal and Cedar kitchen five or six years ago it was really cool experience. I kinda like that idea of selling nice drinks with a story.”
“I think that’ll be a really cool opportunity because no one in Mayfield is offering that. It’ll be really familiar food but just that step up and same with the drinks.”
With a baby on the way, the couple is thrilled to be in the new place stating “It’s good, it’s really good, it’s everything that I wanted but now it’s about getting it to where I want it.”
When asked who Roy was, we were surprised to find out...“I would come in as the head chef so it was like a new stepdad, you know the guy with new rules and a newly in charge, the classic step-dad name is Roy so that’s basically it.”
Diners can expect food which satisfies not only the stomach but the soul too. Their colourful food is worth getting out of the house for and with new projects underway, be sure you get a table whilst you still can.
