Pino's Italian Restaurant

The Islington eatery has announced its final supper

In some more sad hospo news, Islington's Pino's Italian Restaurant has called their last supper this Sunday 10th September.

Pino's has been an institution in Islington for as long as we can remember and has in more recent times been through a number of evolutions. Emerging from lockdown almost unrecognizable and busier than ever with their fresh facelift. The well-known pasta joint had been a go-to for fresh, authentic Italian cuisine, and the renovations opened up the venue to much more.

Taking over their neighbouring site, the space almost doubled in size, showcasing an entirely new dining area, with a statement piece pink tiled bar. Keeping true to their roots with their open brickwork, dark corners, and updated bench seating, the renovations retained an intimate and romantic atmosphere.

Since 2018, Pino's had been known as Newcastle's go-to vegan restaurant, so it came with a surprise when in early May 2023, that owner Dion Pophistroff, alongside the rest of his team, made the decision to switch up the menu to include the omnivores. Dion explained their move away from a strictly vegan menu saying, "it was a difficult decision to make, but we feel this is the right direction for us to focus on. Always maintaining a sustainable approach to the food we use, and being selective with the producers we work with. We will still offer your favourite plant-based options.”

On August 31st Dion announced on Instagram that Pino's was up for sale, calling their last supper on Sunday 10 September. We spoke with Dion, who explained he's hanging up his apron for now to spend time with his family.

Be sure to get in while you can and enjoy the Pino flavours before they sign off for the final time.
