Mayfield's much-loved Perry The Feeder: Closing one chapter, making space for the next operator

Tradies, shift workers, mums with bubs (and pups), and early risers, Perry the Feeder has been fuelling them all since 2017, serving up quality coffee and some of the best darn toasties in town.

Parked on the grassy lawn of Mayfield’s Muster Point and open seven days a week, Jules’ Perry the Feeder food truck was the place locals and visitors could rely on for quality coffee, toasties, a friendly smile and a good chat.

Over nine years, Jules built more than a business in that cosy little corner of Mayfield, she built a beautiful community.

Sitting within Muster Point, Perry The Feeder was also part of a small cluster of hospitality favourites that locals and visitors alike actively seek out — including @sonny.and.betty, @roysat45, and @chieflyroyale. Together, they’ve helped shape this pocket of Mayfield East as a destination built on great food, great coffee, and a strong local community.

So when Jules announced on her socials that it was time to close the window to her toastie and coffee food truck it was a sad moment for her regulars, as well as the Mayfield community.

We spoke to Jules on what brought about the decision to close, some of her highlights, what she’ll miss most, and what’s next – before turning our attention to what comes next for this cute little site at Muster Point in Mayfield East, and the opportunity now open for someone new to step in.

After nine years of Perry The Feeder, can you tell us why you decided to close the business?

I love what I’ve built and I’m very proud of it, but I felt the time was right, both for myself and my family, to change direction.

How are you feeling about your decision now that you’ve had time to reflect?

I’ve had all kinds of emotions. I think bittersweet is the best way to describe it. Some aspects of closing the business have been really sad, but there are also lots of happy parts. There were lots of beautiful customers who I got to know well over the years, and would be sad about not seeing on a regular basis.

Saying goodbye was definitely the hardest part, to all the loyal customers who have been amazing to me over the years – whether it was daily, or weekly visits, there are some really beautiful people in the area.

Perry The Feeder had such a great reputation for serving quality toasties and coffee. What are you most proud of about the business?

I’d say I’m most proud of growing the business basically from scratch. When I came into the food truck, it had only been open for a few weeks, so I had to build it from almost nothing into what it is today. Over the past nine years, I’ve been able to create a beautiful space here in Mayfield that people genuinely loved spending time in, and personally, I think that’s pretty incredible.

What are your plans post Perry The Feeder?

I’m excited to do something different. I have a couple of things in mind, and one has been a bit of a hobby for quite a while, but I’m keeping my options open at the moment and see where that takes me.

And for anyone wondering - Jules’ much‑loved (and very fancy) coffee machine is currently up for sale. It’s fuelled a lot of very good mornings and could be ready for its next chapter too.

Whilst Jules has stepped aside from Perry The Feeder, marking the end of an era, it’s not all bad news.

So, what’s next for Perry The Feeder? – The rare opportunity for a new owner is there for the taking, as the owners of Muster Point, Tanille and Kristy chatted us through.

Is Perry The Feeder business for sale?

With Jules closing the food truck window, the site is now available for lease – no business buy-in required – offering a rare chance for a new owner-operator to bring their own concept. Muster Point is home to 12 other businesses, so we need great coffee back on site ASAP!

Does anything from the previous business still stand ie. name of business, socials, coffee brand and toasties etc.

Short answer: nope – fresh start all round!
The new operator gets a clean slate. The Perry The Feeder name, branding and socials won’t carry over, so it’s a chance to build something entirely your own, from the ground up. The new operator will be promoted through Muster Point’s social channels though, giving them a bit of a head start – and the Mayfield community is well-known for rallying around new businesses.

The existing coffee supplier, Josie Coffee, is keen to work with whoever steps in next. And toasties? Well… who doesn’t love a toastie, but that’s not our call. The menu, flavours and direction will be completely up to the new operator.

If someone’s interested in taking on the food truck, what should they do?

Just send us a DM at @musterpointcollective or email [email protected] with a bit about your background and a quick outline of your idea.

What type of person do you think would suit the business?

For us, an owner‑operator is a must. Muster Point is built on a collective philosophy – where people create something together that’s greater than what they could create individually. Anyone stepping into the food truck will instantly become part of both the Muster Point community and the wider Mayfield neighbourhood.

People really loved Jules’ friendly, familiar face. She knew her regulars, remembered orders, stopped for a chat – that sense of connection mattered just as much as the coffee.

This site also has real untapped potential, and we’d love to see someone come in with the energy and drive to take it to whatever the next level looks like for them. Because of that, it feels like the perfect opportunity for a young, high-energy barista or cafe all‑rounder who’s spent years behind the machine or running the floor in someone else’s cafe, and is now ready to back themselves and launch their own business.

Honestly? It’s pretty much the exact situation we were in nine years ago when we first met Jules, a fresh-faced hospo gun.
