Pekarna

Great coffee and freshly made European cakes in Adamstown

There is a new addition to the Adamstown community and it involves great coffee and freshly made European cakes…about time!

Pekarna, a Czech word meaning bakehouse is owned by Petra, a Newcastle local born in the Czech Republic. Having made appearances around local markets, Pekarna now has it’s very own home.

The small and petite space on Adamstown’s Brunker Road is sure to catch your attention, with its detailed character tiles and the few tables and chairs out the front, which are already filled with local regulars.

Pekarna is all about delicious creamy coffee from their German barista, and tasty Czech and European pastries and tarts. Traditional Czech items on the menu include the ricotta-filled pastries and the poppy seed cakes. De-lish!

Attending the weekly Farmers Market every Sunday, Petra sources out seasonal, fresh and local produce, so expect items on the menu to change regularly.

The ‘Bee Sting’ is a must try, a custard-filled pastry topped with toasted honey almonds, which has become a crowd favourite.

Petra points out that the translated English name for the Czech treats doesn’t sound quite as good. However, I think it will be love at first sight before customers even notice the name.
