New Lambton’s go-to spot for pizza and gelato

For Michelle Mackay and Michael Coates, the owners of New Lambton’s newest pizza spot, Mimi Amore, life has always been about community, connection, and now – pizza.

Both Michelle and Michael are Novocastrians through and through, and share 20 years each in the real estate industry. Their professional lives have long revolved around helping people find their home, and now, they’ve created a new kind of home for New Lambton locals.

“We both wanted something entirely different. We love pizza, we love the suburb of New Lambton. We saw an opportunity to add gelato and making something fun that we could be proud of,” Michelle said.

That opportunity came in the form of a neighbourhood pizza shop. With its already beautiful fit-out and great location, the space only needed a few tweaks, and in February this year, Mimi Amore opened.

Since launch, the response from the community has been nothing short of enthusiastic.

“The response from the local community has been extremely positive. We’ve intentionally started at a manageable level and continued to grow. Next will be a local letter box drop and social media. Our menu too is evolving, with the pasta and dessert pizza side of things now being ramped up.”

The menu at Mimi Amore strikes a balance between the classics everyone knows and loves and new creations that bring something fresh to the table.

Among the highlights is their recently introduced double pepperoni and hot honey pizza, made with traditional pepperoni, American-style pepperoni, and locally sourced reaper honey – a combination that is quickly becoming a crowd favourite.

Other standout options include the modern potato bake pizza, the spicy amante, and the mango and avocado chicken. Of course, you’ll still find staples like a margherita, prosciutto, Hawaiian, and supreme for when a comfort pizza calls.

More recently, the addition of dessert pizzas has delighted customers – think Nutella or a warming apple crumble pizza to finish off the night. Of course, the gelato is a highlight and will no doubt be a favourite moving into the warmer months. Head in-store to see the assortment of flavours.

While Mimi Amore is primarily a takeaway venue, there is seating available for those who want to enjoy their pizza fresh out of the oven.

The name itself reflects the owners themselves – Mimi simply taking the first two letters of their name – followed by amore, which means love in Italian. It’s a fitting title for a place built on passion, both for food and the New Lambton community.

As for the future, locals have already been asking for extended trading hours with Michelle and Michael already considering opening another night during the week or even weekend lunch services.

For now, the focus of Mimi Amore is to continue building the pizzeria into a beloved neighbourhood spot known for great quality pizza and gelato.
