Attention: Jim's in Hamilton is not closing!
There was some panic in the office last week when we caught the Reddit question - Jim's Dairy Delite in Hamilton finished?
The feed provided some kind of relief with suggestions of a deep clean, and renovations taking place. Then, weirdly, only hours later, we received a text message from the lovely Tracey at East End Ice Creamery, revealing some very exciting news. Read on to find out what we chatted about:
So Tracey, is the news correct that your business, East End Ice Creamery, is taking over Jim’s in Hamilton?
Yes, that’s the scoop. We are bringing our “Real Ice Cream Company ” Ice Cream to Jim's at Hamilton.
That's huge news! Will the Jim's name be staying put?
Jim's is such an iconic venue in Newcastle that evokes such great memories for so many Novocastrians, so of course we are going to keep the name and let the legend of Jim's live on.
Had you looked at the venue previously as a second location?
We have been looking to expand in Newcastle, and Jim's really stood out to us, as like many people who grew up in Newcastle, Jim’s Dairy Delites Bar was always the place to go for a great milkshake. Now it is not only going to have the best milkshakes in town, but it will have Real Ice Cream, made in Newcastle, for Newcastle.
Without spoiling the reopening surprise, can you let us in on what plans you have for Jim's?
We plan on staying in our lane, keeping it simple, offering the very best ice cream made locally, using our house baked and locally sourced, quality ingredients, offering all the classics, plus some of our East End Ice Creamery Signature Flavours along with a few seasonal surprises.
We are giving Jim's a bit of a spruce up and hope to be back up and open in just a couple of weeks. We know the locals have been missing Jim's, so we are trying to be a quick as we can!
Thank you so much for your support. We cannot wait to fling open the doors of Jim's Dairy Delites Bar at Hamilton and carry the baton for the next generations to enjoy.
