Hotel Jesmond

This iconic Newcastle pub has a brand-new look

That’s right, the local pub has had quite the facelift and now boasts stunning interiors and delicious food whilst also producing some of the best vibes going around town.

If you’ve driven around Jesmond lately, you may have noticed some pretty hefty reno's taking place at the Hotel Jesmond. It’s been a huge year and a half of work and we’re excited to announce that the entire hotel has had its final touches and is officially open for everyone to check out.

Each and every detail has been carefully considered, from the cutlery on the tables to the plants in the beer garden to the flavours and presentation of the burgers, and the weekly specials; you name it, they’ve thought of it.

Entering the hotel you’ll feel like you’ve been transported somewhere totally new with so many spaces to explore and relax in. The dedicated Bistro area is perfect for that mid-week feed or birthday celebration. Sports fans you'll be pleased to know there's a whole area dedicated to you, and out the back you’ve got the almighty beer garden that’s decked out with pool tables, LED screen, better described as the mega screen, and all the greenery you can imagine.

The semi-outdoor beer garden is so inviting with one of the most impressive greenery spaces I’ve ever seen in a pub. Think Palm Springs meets Melbourne, making it the perfect spot it sit back with a bevvy in hand with a group of mates, enjoy the live sport or try your hand at a game of pool.

The build was the creative work of the team behind Bergstrom Architects, working alongside the owner, Dan, to bring something unique not only to Jesmond but to the greater region of Newcastle. From the panelling on the bar, to the large void above the bistro area; Hotel Jesmond has indeed brought something new, lively and appealing to town.

The menu has been curated by head chef Paul Thornton, who has brought a wealth of culinary experience to the Hotel, delivering a menu based around seasonal, locally sourced and house-made ingredients.

“Paul’s understanding and appreciation for the best produce is showcased through emphasis on flavour and considered details in every dish, elevating the casual dining experience. Designed for you to enjoy a quality meal and catch up with friends and family, Paul’s menu focusses on the beloved pub classics and contemporary seasonal dishes, with something to please everyone.”

The extensive menu offers the standard pub classics like pizzas, burgers and of course the Aussie favourite; chicken schnitzel. Paul has also worked on creating some delicious not-so-pub style flavours that will please all kinds of diners.

Vegan? We’d absolutely recommend the Soba Noodle or the Roast Pumpkin Salads. Gluten-free? You’ve got to check out the Pan-fried Atlantic Salmon or the Thai Beef Salad. Dairy-free? Check out the Kosciuszko Pale Ale Battered Flathead or get your hands around the Half Rack Smokey BBQ Pork Ribs. There is literally a flavour for everyone.

For the beer lovers out there, you’ll be excited to hear they’ve got two fully stocked bars with 19 beers on tap. And for those of you like myself who likes a cheeky Espresso Martini or Margarita, you can get them on tap too!

Whilst the hotel has got itself a little bit of pizazz about it, it’s still a classic pub at the core; just better! Making it the ideal spot for a casual family dinner out, or for a sport-fan to throw back a few beers with mates, for music lovers to catch a live gig or even to enjoy a relaxed long work lunch.

“We pride ourselves on doing the simple well, taking the simple foundations of a traditional pub and making them even better! It’s welcoming, comfortable and modern while maintaining it’s classic pub feel, and the best part is that it’s easy on the wallet!”

For owner Dan and the rest of the Hotel Jesmond team, It’s been an absolute labour of love and so exciting to see the brand new space come to life.

Only just last week, Hotel Jesmond took out a finalist place in the AHA Excellence awards over numerous categories. Want to know what they were?

If you needed any more reason to give these guys a visit, I think I’ve just given it to you! So head on into Hotel Jesmond with your friends and family and explore this classic new pub!
