Newcastle’s 100% plant-based diner
Situated inside The Family Hotel is the unassuming foodie joint, Greaser’s Good Food – Newcastle’s only 100% plant-based diner.
Brought to you by Forster-born, now Newcastle resident, Shannon McConnell, Greaser’s Good Food has been serving up their unique take on ‘diner’ feeds since its launch in April 2021.

“Ever since I can remember, there has been a pull towards the kitchen, the joys of food and creating. I started as a chef at the age of 16 – 15 years ago – and have continued that course of career while also studying my other interests of marine life and music.
“Growing up around the ocean influenced me a lot. It gave me a great appreciation for the environment and the importance of conserving the natural world.”
The two concepts, a love of good food and a passion for protecting our natural world led Shannon into the world of vegan eats, taking over the original restaurant inside The Family and rebranding to Greaser’s Good Food.
“We’ve been really well-received from both vegans and non-vegans since our inception and have a load of loyal customers who have been with us since day one and those who travel fair distances just to eat with us.”
Offering a wide selection of burgers, tacos, hotdogs, sides, and shakes, with the majority of the menu crafted from scratch in-house. Ask the staff which options can be made gluten free.
“There was a need for good-quality and flavoursome vegan comfort food in Newcastle that everybody can enjoy. There aren’t too many fully-vegan options locally.”
The diner is open for takeaways and deliveries from 12pm and dine-ins from 5pm, five days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday).
