A small batch micro brewery arrives in Cardiff

If you like to mix your craft beer flavours with your favourite sporting action, then you will need to schedule a visit to Wests Cardiff and check out Newcastle’s newest brewery.

Recently opened Cardiff Brewery is the newest venture by Wests and possibly their most advantageous to date.

The history of the area was taken into consideration throughout the design and branding process, starting with the Cardiff Brewery logo which incorporates Cardiff’s history in each element including the Tickhole Tunnel and Winding Creek, Cardiff's first railway station.

Take a step through the archway and you will be met with an extraordinarily large entertainment area.

On first glance it’s the massive screens that catch your eye, 7.2m wide by 2 metres high to be precise, the screens are however outdone by the sleek small batch craft brewery.

Featuring three working tanks, the Cardiff Brewery team are working with Pete Merrington from the craft brewery Malt Shovel to create a range of beers under the Cardiff Brewery label which includes an XPA and Amber Ale, on tap at the bar.

Also in the works are some alternate craft brews with a Juicy Pale Ale and Red Ale set to launch from the taps soon.

The lounge style design features some stand out interior highlights which start with the very unique custom built beer bottle chandelier. The extensive copper piping snakes its way along the ceiling adding a sophisticated edge to the sports bar and leads to the beer bottle crafted bar. 

The mix of seating offers room for up to 120 people, with a range of seating preferences, from the very comfy lounge style armchairs, to high tables and the very social booths.

For those looking to get involved in some actual sporting action, move into the adjoining room where the games begin. It’s here you’ll find a range of arcade games, and for the dart lovers the eight boards allow for some serious competition.

Open each day visitors to Wests Cardiff can settle into the space from 10am, with the Cardiff Brewery Bar open each Friday, Saturday from 4pm and during major sporting events.

To ensure you don’t go hungry whilst watching all the sporting action, order yourself a pizza with the menu covering all your favourites along with a couple of surprises like the Mexican Beef with spiced brisket, red kidney beans, tomato & herb sauce. 

For something lighter order from the Snacks menu which covers classics like Mini Pluto Pups, Chicken Wings, and Duck Spring Rolls to name a few.

The relaxed dining, and sports bar space makes for a welcome new socialising experience for visitors to Wests Cardiff and one to add to your list of places to visit this summer.
