Visit Mayfield’s newest pizza joint
The growing foodie suburb of Mayfield delivers once more with the arrival of a dedicated pizza joint, Bella Pizzeria, now serving at Mayfield Hotel.
The local haunt on the main road of Mayfield sits amongst some of the best foodie joints and coffee spots in its suburb, but its unassuming façade is what makes it all the more fun when you discover the delightful pizzeria waiting to welcome you inside.
Bella Pizzeria, Mayfield’s newest pizza joint, is home to a delicious array of pizzas and cocktails perfectly matched for a family night out or a group gathering.
Brought to us by the local pub partnership that is, Campbell Rogers and Josh Gamgee, underwent some interior changes over lockdown, as well as pulling together a brand-new foodie offering.
“We did all of the painting in here, as well as changing some of the lighting and bringing in new furniture to the bar. It basically just got a little bit of a facelift.
“When the boys took over here three years ago, they really wanted a pizzeria, that was always one of the aims. But originally there was a pizzeria across the road, so we didn’t bring this about until COVID,” Cassey said.
Officially opening up the new local pizza joint earlier this month, it’s had nothing but rave reviews and orders coming out of the ears.
So, what is on the menu?
Keeping with a traditional Italian-style pizzeria, you can expect a bunch of pared-back pizza items alongside some really impactful flavours.
“We’ve got your traditional toppings, vegetarian options, and a range of deluxe pizzas, alongside salads and pasta.”
We couldn’t go past the iconic New Yorker, a tomato base topped with spicy pepperoni, or the Proscuitto & Rocket with prosciutto, fresh rocket, and shaved parmesan on a tomato base. For vegetarians, the Spinach & Feta is an absolute no-brainer complete with fresh baby spinach, mushroom, onion, olives, and feta served on a tomato base.
In addition to all these divine carb-loaded creations, you’ve got to explore the dedicated cocktail range, touching on some traditional Italian favourites including the Bella Paloma with tequila, sugar syrup, Aperol, grapefruit, lemon, and mint, and the Nutella ‘Tini with Frangelico, vodka, Baileys, milk, and Nutella.
It might also be worth mentioning, that the Mayfield Hotel is home to one of the best-kept secrets when it comes to function spaces across Newcastle. The unassuming hotel boasts its very own grassed rooftop space, which overlooks the backstreets of Mayfield, a view not seen by many!
